We Care

There are a lot of different types of “assisted living”, or “senior citizen communities”, but there is a difference between us and them. The one single difference is that we care. We care about people all of them old and young, and we want to make sure that after your loved ones get to a point of needing assistance there is someone there to actually care for them. So when you ponder who to send your loved ones to don’t send them to someone who will just “put up with them for you” send them somewhere they will be cared for.

The Many Names of Home Assisted Living

The Many Names of Home Assisted Living

Personal care homes, adult foster homes, board and care homes, assisted living homes, residential home care. No matter what you call it, there is no doubt about the advantages assisted living in a home environment.

Ask any elderly individual where they would like to live and most would say at home. Since hiring an aide full time at your home can be costly the next best thing is to have full time care in a home-like environment.

At Unlimited Care Assisted Living Cottages, we not only provide round the clock elder care but we also strive to provide as close to a home environment for our residents. We do this by keeping our cottages small and encourage our residents to make their space their own.

Winter Tips for the Elderly from Unlimited Care Assisted Living Cottages

Winter Tips for the Elderly from Unlimited Care Assisted Living Cottages

As the winter months roll in and the temperature drops it’s important to remember the following tips for the elderly to remember to combat the cold season.

  • Stay warm. Even in Houston, The Woodlands, Spring, Conroe and Kingwood, Texas where it might not be freezing temperatures for months on end, it’s important to remember that even cooler temperatures can have an effect on senior health and comfort.
  • Think about getting a flu shot. Nobody likes getting the flu, yet so many people, from kids to the elderly, don’t get the proper seasonal vaccinations. Seniors should speak to their doctor about the benefits of getting a flu shot to avoid future infection.
  • Review the side effects of your medication. Many medications have side effects that are similar to cold symptoms since medication can cause changes in the circulatory system. Speak to your doctor about these side effects and consider alternative treatments.
  • Drink cold drinks. Or at least room temperature drinks. It may sound backwards but hot drinks, while warming your hands and body on a cold day can actually confuse the body’s temperature regulation. So stay hydrated, but try to avoid hot drinks.

These are just a few tips to staying healthy and happy through the winter months and if you are a resident at an Unlimited Care Assisted Living Cottage, you’ve got nothing to worry about because our staff knows about these and lot of other winter tips. And if you are not a resident, then give us a call today at 713-419-2609 to schedule a visit.
